Metallica played an intimate benefit concert in LA on Wednesday and during the show, drummer Lars Ulrich revealed details for the band’s upcoming trek.
According to Billboard, Ulrich said Metallica will follow the September release of their as-yet-untitled album with a tour in October. Guitarist Kirk Hammett exclaimed after the gig, “That was the first show of the tour.”
This week’s concert was pulled together at the last minute to benefit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music started by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, who joined Metallica on stage for a song at the show. The charity helps low-income students who can’t afford instruments or music lessons.
While on stage, playing mostly hits and no new music, singer James Hetfield told the crowd, “It feels good to play live again. We haven’t played here in a long time.” The band probably raised over 300-thousand dollars for the conservatory.
Meanwhile, there has been no official word yet on any October tour dates, but Metallica will perform in LA again tomorrow.
