The Police played what they are saying was their final show together on Thursday at New York’s Madison Square Garden. According to Billboard.com, the trio began with a cover of Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love” and were then joined by the New York Police Department Band for “Message in a Bottle”.
Sting’s daughter danced with him onstage during “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” and prior to the encore, a live video from backstage showed that the singer was having his beard shaved while getting a manicure, pedicure and massage. As for the encore, the band played Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” and their final song was “Next to You”.
They then left the stage to the Looney Tunes theme “That’s All Folks”.
The Police’s 151-date final tour grossed nearly 359-million dollars, ranking third in all-time concert tour grosses. Sting told the crowd at one point, “It’s been a huge honor to get back with my good friends. The real triumph of this tour is that we haven’t strangled each other – that doesn't mean it hadn’t crossed my mind.”
