In a press conference yesterday in New York’s Times Square, The Police (the band not the force) announced that their last concert ever is scheduled to take place “somewhere in Manhattan”. The show will take place in August but further details are still unknown. If that weren't enough, the band revealed that they will be donating one-million dollars to MillionTreesNYC, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's initiative to plant trees all over the five boroughs that make up New York City. The Mayor, who also spoke at the press conference, pledged that the city will match The Police's generous donation.
Sting told the gathered crowd that trees were the perfect gift to commemorate their last performance. "We wanted to leave a gift for our last performance that would keep on giving year after year, decade after decade, the gift of trees does do that."
Unlike the fleeting do-gooder interests of most celebs, Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, devote serious energy to their environmental charity.
Sting said, “You cannot just say I’m now going to save the rainforest, you have to save bits of it and hopefully that idea will take on. And it kind of has, I mean we’ve raised 25-million dollars over the past 20 years, we’re now on four continents, we’re in Asia, Africa Central and South America and were creating legal infrastructures, allowing indigenous people to protect themselves.”
The trees aren't Sting's only effort to help the environment. He is holding a benefit concert at New York's Carnegie Hall on May 8th with Billy Joel, Brian Wilson, James Taylor and many others.
By way of thanking Sting for all his hard work towards saving their precious natural resources, scientists have named a South American tree frog after him. The dendrosophus stingi can be found in the heavily degraded forests of Colombia.

The music of Radiohead does not exactly conjure images of sunshine. The band, one of the most beloved in contemporary rock, specializes in gorgeously anguished tales of dread and alienation -- sullen songs for sullen souls.

Filter's new album 'Anthems for the Damned' is streaming online prior to its May 13th release. Cheap DIY Music Video: Get Gov't CCTVs to record it for you!
The Get Out Clause are an upcoming UK band who took a brilliant and I?m sure soon to be much copied method to producing their own video. They performed their music in front of 80 of the 13 million CCTV ?security? cameras available in England, then used Britain?s Data Protection Act to request the footage that was shot of them.
