Here we are again, kids, with another installment of "Remember Them" coming at you straight from the year 1995.
Excerpts taken from Wikipedia: Quicksand was a post-hardcore band from New York City and, retrospectively, one of the most influential rock acts of that era, and was led by former Gorilla Biscuits guitarist Walter Schreifels. The creative blueprint that Quicksand provided can still be heard in current hard rock trends.
The band released two widely-acclaimed albums: Slip and Manic Compression before disbanding in 1995. In 1997, Quicksand reunited and embarked on a successful tour in 1998 with Deftones. Towards the end of the year, they began work on a follow-up to Manic Compression, but tensions within the band caused them to split up for good.
You should, if you were awake in the 90s, have heard the grinding post-hardcore track "A Thorn In My Side" on MTV's 120 Minutes/Alternative Nation and the Jon Stewart Show back in the day.
Quicksand - A Thorn In My Side
Since the band broke up, Walter Schreifels formed alt-rock band Rival Schools, who released one album before splitting. He currently plays in pop-rock band Walking Concert and does occasional acoustic solo performances, some of which were heard on K-Rock 2's Domestic Disturbance.
See, we don't lie.
Guitarist Tom Capone formed Handsome with members of Murphy's Law, Iceburn and Helmet, releasing a self-titled album in 1997. Bassist Sergio Vega has since played bass on tour for Deftones and has also released solo material; he currently DJs around New York City and Staten Island. Drummer Alan Cage joined alt-rock band Seaweed and later Enemy after Quicksand's split. He has also recently been working with New Idea Society and 108.
The Return of Rival Schools
It’s been five years since Rival Schools played a US tour, but according to Billboard.com, they are back. The band will kick off a slew of shows on October 9th in Los Angeles and wrap it all up with a hometown New York set at Mercury Lounge on November 6th. Billboard also reports that the group plans to make a new album, their first in seven years, once the tour is finished.
Liam Gallagher Disses Coldplay
While Chris Martin says he's a big Oasis fan and that Coldplay would be willing to open for the Manchester group, the feeling isn't mutual for Liam Gallagher.
Kiss unhappy about rock hall of fame exclusion
They've sold millions of records, and influenced several generations of fans and musicians. So why isn't Kiss in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? "There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not Kiss," the band's outspoken frontman said during a speech at the Billboard Touring Conference
How Axl Rose Spent All That Time
?Chinese Democracy? is the Titanic ship of rock albums: It?s outsize, lavish, obsessive, technologically advanced and, all too clearly, the end of an era.
The 20 Dumbest Band Names of All Time
#12 - Boyz II Men -- Everyone loves some ?Motownphilly,? but the creativity behind this group?s name is just plain stupid. What was Michael Bivins smoking when he decided to allow the Philadelphia legends to release R&B records under one of the worst play on words ever?
60 Belgian Women Sing Radiohead's Creep (Listen)
That said, it?s been a long time since I?ve actually listened to any early-era Radiohead, but I recently discovered this fantastic live recording of Scala & Kolacny Brothers doing a beautifully sullen piano and voice rendition of Radiohead?s ubiquitous 1993 single. The cluster of sixty something Belgian women focus primarily on minimalist...
