Rock Star Reality

You’ve watched them flip their hair, switch on their guitars, and light the stage on fire. So what’s the deal with them looking for love, a degree, or a second chance at a career? I guess the groupies and the glory just weren’t good enough.

Here is a recap of some of the most popular reality shows featuring our favorite rock stars - in case you missed it - as compiled by our very own, Samantha the Intern.

------------------------

He once painted his face white and black and spit blood towards the crowd. Now he follows his two kids around California and gets face lifts on national television. Really? I mean really Simmons, was it that necessary to display such lack of rock star-ism? Oh wait I forgot, his long time girlfriend/baby momma got one as well - family bonding? Gene Simmons’ reality show on A&E aka “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” is currently in its third season, I guess people just can’t get enough of that lingual gifted family.

As if their own bands weren’t satisfying enough, Ted Nugent, Scott Ian, Sebastian Bach, Evan Seinfield, and Jason Bonham had to come out with something super—something really super. Something that involved them participating in a reality show called Supergroup. Perfect! Well, perfect if your idea of a good band is taking a handful of legendary rock stars, putting them together in a house, and hoping for musical bliss (I just hope Nugent left his rifles at home). Damnocracy, the name of this super band, got the job done and came up with some tunes, but the public hasn’t heard much if anything of the group since the show ended in May of 2006. Go figure?

High school drop out turned rock star turned college student? Yes folks, you are reading that correctly. For a brief time our very own Motley Crue drummer, Tommy Lee decided why the heck not try college out for a bit? You know, take some classes, try out for the marching band, score some chicks (did you see what his tutor looked like?!)? Well the University of Nebraska certainly got a fair bit of controversy over NBC’s rock star reality show “Tommy Lee Goes to College”. But over what? Tommy Lee’s criminal record? That can’t be too bad, I mean he only kicked Pam a couple times and only had to spend four months in jail for it.

Another rock star getting plastic surgery on national television?! Well, to be fair, Vince Neil did it long before Gene Simmons decided to go under the knife. But yes, Motley Crue front man has jumped on the reality bus more than once. First with VH1’s the Surreal Life and again with MTV’s Remaking Vince Neil which followed his steps through plastic surgery and an overall head-to-toe makeover. I guess headbands and skin tight leather pants aren’t in anymore?

Do I even have to say it? Bret Michaels. Rock of Love. Yes. Ohhh yes, I saved the best for last. If you’re anything like myself, you found yourself plugged into this every week. I don’t even like Poison, but I could not get enough of the weekly episodes of drinking binges and stripping contests. Have we all gone mad? Have our intelligence levels really dropped this far? The answer is yes. Though there have been two seasons already, like with many other celebrity dating shows on VH1 (Flavor of Love, I Love New York) Bret Michaels has yet to find a woman that sticks with him past the season finale!
